Reverend Anthony Wade
Pastor President, General Baptist State Convention of WI
Reverend Wade’s journey in Christian service began in 1968, when he was baptized in Washington, D.C. and trained as a Junior Deacon at age ten. He united with Second Baptist in 1994 under the late Reverend Donald S. Moss, was ordained a deacon in 2000, and served as Chairman of the Deacon Ministry and Administrative Assistant to the pastor.
Answering the call to preach, he was ordained a Minister of the Gospel in April 2010 and installed as the sixth pastor of Second Baptist in 2012. He holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees, retired from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention after a 41-year career, and serves as a certified instructor for the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. Congress of Christian Education. He was recently elected the seventh President of the General Baptist State Convention of Wisconsin, Inc.
His leadership reaches well past the pulpit. He reunited Second Baptist with the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. and the General Baptist State Convention of Wisconsin, Inc.; serves as Chair of the H. Matthew Beecham Scholarship; tutors and mentors middle school youth across Madison; facilitates Black Men Voices; advocates for mental health awareness; and champions health and wellness through the church’s Health Ministry outreach.
In 1988 he married the love of his life, Lucretia Sullivan; together they have one beloved daughter, Tricia Renee Butler Wade.
